Ildefonso has no doubt in his mind on who will win Fajardo-Taulava face-off

    Dec 10, 2013

AS far as Danny Ildefonso is concerned, Petron’s vastly improved big man June Mar Fajardo is close to becoming the most dominant player in the country today.

    If he isn't already.

The two-time league MVP, who spent the final season of his 15-year stay with Petron mentoring the 6-10 big man from Cebu, expects Fajardo to be close to impossible to stop in the pro league once he perfects his footwork.

    They Said It!

“Kapag na-perfect na ni June Mar ang footwork, siya na ang pinaka-malakas na player sa Pilipinas." - All-Star center Danny Ildefonso

“Kapag na-perfect na ni June Mar ang footwork, siya na ang pinaka-malakas na player sa Pilipinas. Di mo kasi makakayanan si June Mar dahil malakas siya saka mabigat,” Ildefonso shared to Spin.ph.

On the eve of Fajardo’s keenly-awaited match-up with Air21’s veteran center Asi Taulava, Ildefonso has no doubt in his mind on who will get the better of who.

Ildefonso said Taulava remains a strong force despite his age. But given Fajardo’s quickness and his growing understanding of Petron’s system, he feels the sophomore sensation will be able to pass his first acid test against the Air21 big man.

“Kayang kaya iyan ni June Mar. Siyempre, may edad na siya,” said Ilfefonso, who at 37 is three years younger than Taulava.

The 6-5 Ildefonso said he still regularly watches his former protege play on television and couldn't help but marvel at the giant strides the 24-year-old former University of Cebu center has taken this season.

He's only bound to get even better given the proper guidance, Ildefonso added.

“Napaka-humble na bata ni June Mar. Sana matutukan pa siya, kasi si June Mar na talaga ang nagbibigay ng panalo sa Petron,” noted the Pangasinense free agent.

In Petron’s five-win tally, Fajardo has registered back-to-back 20-rebound games.

The 24-year-old Petron center registered 21 points and 25 rebounds in the Boosters’ 91-78 whipping of San Mig Super Coffee, before grabbing 22 boards and scoring 11 points in helping his team to a 96-90 win against Barako Bull.
