Jayson Castro is optimistic he'll be back in full health for TNT's do-or-die semis match vs SMB. Jerome Ascano

WITH just a day’s rest in between, Jayson Castro hopes he’ll be fit enough to play in the deciding Game Seven of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals between TnT Katropa and reigning champion San Miguel.

Castro had himself taken out seven minutes in Saturday night’s game at the Mall of Asia Arena, complaining about his hurting left leg. He spent the rest of the match on the bench and watched as the Beermen hack out a 104-88 win that tied the best-of-seven series at three-games apiece.

Initially, it was thought Castro just suffered a leg cramp, but was obviously tentative with his answers when asked about the incident.

“Hindi ko pa malaman kung ano yung nangyari, pero siguro minor lang yung injury,” said the TnT superstar.

    “Pero ok naman ako.”

He planned to just rest the leg on Sunday before the Texters plunge back into action Monday for the winner-take-all match also at the MoA Arena.

Castro was quick to deny he has been nursing the injury even before.

“Ay hindi, bago lang,” he said. “Kanina lang, pero I feel ok.”

The cat-quick combo guard finished with 19 points, but only had two in the final quarter.

In as much as he wanted to return and help the Texters get back on track after the Beermen went on an offensive rampage while he was on the bench, Castro said the decision was really on coach Nash Racela to make.

“Oo, kasi down lang kami ng six points,” he recalled. “But nag-try din si coach kasi nung second unit namin, which is nung first and second quarters maganda yung nilalaro.”

Despite hurting, Castro said he’s ready to suit up for the Texters come hell or high water.

“Yung mindset ko pa rin na yun….kasi eto lang yung opportunity namin,” said the product of Philippine Christian University. “Sayang naman lahat ng pinaghirapan namin.”

At the same time, his mind is also set on TnT pulling off this one and making the finals again after five conferences.

“Confident pa rin kami na kaya namin silang talunin. Adjust lang kami,” said Castro.
