REYNEL Hugnatan gave a peek as to why Chris Newsome has become one of the best players in the country today.
In a Facebook reel posted on his account recently, Hugnatan showed Newsome hard at work on his game at the Meralco Gym two hours before the Bolts' team practice.
“Kaya ‘yung idol niyong si Newnew, ang galing, di ba?” said Hugnatan, who is now one of the assistant coaches of Meralco. “Practice namin, 1 p.m. pa pero eto, wala pang 11, tignan niyo nagsu-shooting na.”

Hugnatan can attest to Newsome’s work ethic since he is also one of the early birds in the gym, dating back to when he was still playing for the Bolts.
Hugnatan, 46, is still active playing for the San Juan Knights in the MPBL as he maintains his fine physique until today.
And he definitely knows what it takes to become a good player.
“Everyday ‘yan. Two hours before. Nagsu-shooting na ‘yan,” said Hugnatan of Newsome. "Kaya imagine niyo, kaya nagtataka kayo pagdating sa court, ang galing. Kasi winowork out niya lagi ‘yung mga weakness niya.”
Newsome’s hardwork has been paying off, earning him a spot in the Gilas Pilipinas lineup. Newsome was also named the Finals MVP when Meralco captured its first-ever PBA crown during the 2024 Philippine Cup.
“Nakikita ko ‘yan lagi everyday kasi maaga rin ako palagi dito. Kaya bilib ako dito sa pagkasipag ng taong ‘yan,” said Hugnatan.
