CHINESE Taipei coach Hsu Chih-chao expects to have their hands full against Gilas Pilipinas when the two teams clash in their final Group A game in the Fiba-Asia Championship preliminaries on Saturday.
Hsu pointed to the Philippines’ depth as well as its ability to convert three-point shots as the Taiwanese's main concern as they try to enter the next round still undefeated.
“The twelve (Gilas) players are great,” Hsu said of the host team. “They have many shooters, they have good post players, and point guards. Tomorrow will be very tough.”
“I just want my players to play hard,” Hsu added.
The Taiwanese primed up for their showdown with the Philippines with a sizzling shooting display on Friday, hitting 17 three-pointers in their 90-67 victory over Saudi Arabia.
“We know that we have to win because tomorrow, we will play the Philippines,” said Hsu.
Lu Cheng-ju led Chinese-Taipei with seven three-pointers followed by Taiwanese-American Douglas Creighton with four and Hsu hopes their hot shooting will carry over into the match against the hosts.
Asked about their chances against Gilas, he said: “I don’t worry about that. I want to go into Final Four. I don’t worry about that.”
