AFTER winning a first-ever PBA championship in franchise history, the Meralco Bolts certainly deserve some R&R.
With Season 49 fast approaching, the team will take some time to go on a short Hong Kong trip as part of its incentives for winning the Philippine Cup crown.
“We’re going on a trip to Hong Kong as a team,” confirmed coach Luigi Trillo prior to his departure for Las Vegas.
“Sinabi lang ni Boss Pao (Trillo). I think it’s from July 29 to August 1.”

After 14 years of waiting, Meralco bagged its breakthrough title in Asia’s pioneering pro league last month behind a six-game upset of heavily-favored San Miguel Beer.
The championship journey was the highlight of a hectic playing schedule for the Bolts, who played in the Doha International Basketball Championship prior to Season 48 and then represented the country in the East Asia Super League's (EASL) first home-and away season.
In all, it was actually a nine-month, non-stop of basketball for the franchise, according to Trillo.
“I think we need that (trip), because we’ve been playing year-round basketball. Sunud-sunod talaga. So we’ll rest on and we’ll just pivot first,” he said.”
After the trip, Trillo said it’s back to the drawing boards for the team especially with a few rookies and returning import Allen Durham joining the team for its campaign in the season-opening Governors Cup.
“We’re supposed to come back for a week of strengthening. No ball, just conditioning,” said Trillo of the start of Meralco’s training camp for the season.
