STAR is already gearing up for the PBA Commissioner’s Cup playoffs, so much so that Ian Sangalang is willing to delay his honeymoon with Pauline Eunice after they tied the knot last Sunday.
“Siguro after na ng conference,” Sangalang said in a short chat with SPIN.ph after practice on Tuesday on the eve of their last game of the eliminations against Alaska. “Naintindihan naman ni misis yun kung bakit wala pa ngayon, kasi very crucial yung mga darating naming games sa playoffs.
“Sacrifice muna,” added the 6-foot-7 slotman, who’s an integral part of the rotation, averaging eight points and 4.5 boards in 20.9 minutes in 10 games so far this conference.
But don’t get the 25-year-old cager wrong. Nothing thrills him more than preparing for married life with the 22-year-old Pauline, a fellow Kapampangan who he met at an event three years ago during Sangalang’s rookie year in the pros.
“Buhay may asawa na,” Sangalang said with a smile. “Nae-excite ako magka-family kasi since the day na nag-start ako mag-basketball at nag-stay sa Manila, lagi ako mag-isa, as in sa tinitirhan ko, mag-isa lang ako.”
“Now, nag-iba na,” the former NCAA MVP out of San Sebastian added. “Pag uwi ko, may kasama na ako sa bahay, may inuuwian na ako kaagad. Ito na yung buhay ko ngayon.”
What’s more exciting is that they’re expectant parents as Sangalang bared that his wife is five months pregnant.
“Sobrang happy kasi na-reach ko yung goal na magkaroon ng family pag kaya ko na. At ito na yung time na kaya ko,” Sangalang said.
So he’s hoping for the Hotshots to have a deep playoff run – and, of course, a championship – for management to grant them a long vacation - resulting in a long honeymoon.
“Pinag-iisipan pa naming (kung saan kami mag-honeymoon),” Sangalang said. “Kung paano yung time na magkakaroon kami, kung ilang days, kung gaano ka-ganda yung bakasyon namin. Depende.”
