ANTIPOLO – With one shot, James Yap heralded his new beginning for Rain or Shine, while reminding everyone of his stature at the same time.
The two-time PBA MVP’s three-pointer at the halfway mark of the second quarter against Mahindra marked his first field goal for his team new, while also allowing him to join the league’s elite 1,000 three-pointers club
“Naka-move on na ako,” Yap said after wearing a uniform that’s not named Purefoods for the first time in his career. “Buhay basketball, ‘di naman natin hawak ang mga ganyang bagay.”
The 13-year veteran also proved he is one of the best shooters of all time as he buried his 1000th triple that made only the sixth player to reach that milestone.
“Actually, nakalimutan ko na yun,” Yap said as he ended his Star career with just 999 three-point field goals. “Yun pala one three-pointer away na lang, so sobrang blessed na-reach ko yun and syempre dala-dala mo na habang buhay na record na yun.”
Yap hit another triple in the fourth that moved him into fifth in the list, past Al Solis, capping off a solid debut highlighted by 10 points, three boards, and two assists in less than 14 minutes off the bench.
“Parang rookie yung feeling,” Yap said.. “Sobrang excited ako for this game, excited makabalik para makatulong sa kanila.”
“Before, nung wala pa ako dito, hirap na hirap kaming talunin,” he added of the E-Painters. “Buti na lang kahit papaano napunta ako sa magandang team and sana tuloy-tuloy na ‘tong good start.”
