JAPETH Aguilar bagged the PBA Press Corps-Honda Finals MVP award after Barangay Ginebra bagged the Governors’ Cup crown.
Aguilar, 33, averaged 17.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.4 blocks in the series on his way to winning his first-ever Finals MVP of his career.
Aguilar finished the series in style, contributing 25 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks as Ginebra closed out the series, 4-1, in Game Five.
From the moment his statistics on blocks was mentioned during the awards ceremony, it was already clear that Aguilar had won the individual award as it was his defense that put Ginebra on the top.
In Game One, Aguilar pulled off a block over Allen Durham that preserved the victory for the Gin Kings, 91-87.
Aguilar then collected seven blocks in Game Three that gave Ginebra a 2-1 series lead against Meralco following the 92-84 win, before tallying two blocks in Game Four.
He capped off the series with a few more blocks, one against Durham late in the game, before pulling off one dunk after another in the title clincher.
