HENRY Walker hopes to be back in action next week when Backwater takes on Meralco in their penultimate game of the conference.

Walker was able to play only in the first quarter due to a nagging shoulder pain and the Elite went on to absorb a big loss to the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on Friday in the Commissioner’s Cup.

The American import said he has been in pain since the conference opener against NLEX and became unbearable on Friday.

Walker said he didn’t want to risk it considering that they have their sights on the Governor’s Cup, the same conference where he took the Elite to the quarterfinals last season.

“My shoulder’s just a bit sore. There’s a bit of clicking in my shoulder whenever I try to shoot. Been trying to work through it. Today I was shooting before the game and the pain got so bad and I couldn’t help my team,” said Walker who finished with just two points and three rebounds in just nearly eight minutes of action.

“Been experiencing it since the first game. Kinda having a little soreness and just getting hit on repeatedly. I just didn’t want to risk it any further,” he added.

“We got a week so (I’ll) try to get some treatment. Rest up and try to rehab. Strengthen the area around it and hopefully be ready for Friday.”

The Elite skidded to their eighth defeat in nine games, but Walker says he still proud of his teammates for staying in the game against the league’s top team before Chris Tiu’s hot hands took them out for good.

“They’re coming around. They’re realizing they have the ability to play with anybody in the PBA and they’re showing it. It took them longer than normal but we’re building towards something. I think in the Governor’s Cup we’ll see all the hard work pay off.”
