DESPITE their failure to advance past the quarterfinals of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Petron rookie coach Olsen Racela isn’t discounting the possibility of bringing back import Henry Sims next season.
“For next year, we’d love to have him (Sims) back. We just have to consider our options, though mas maganda every year same import bumabalik. We hope he gets better next year,” said Racela.
Sims’ stint with Petron was cut short on Sunday night after the team was eliminated by Talk `N Text in their quarterfinal playoff, 86-96, for a 2-0 sweep of the short best-of-three series.
But the import believes he could have worked well and played better for Petron had he came in earlier in the Boosters’ campaign in the mid-season conference.
“I wish I was able to get here sooner in retrospect, but you can’t do anything about it,” said the 23-year-old Sims, who only played for a total of six games for the Boosters after replacing Rodney White towards the end of the elimination round.
In his farewell game with the team, the import finished with another double-double of 17 points, 11 rebounds, and three shot blocks in 40 minutes of action.
"I enjoyed this experience in my three weeks with the team. Definitely, I’ll put Petron at the top two or top three of my list. I’ll just get my body right and get better,” said Sims after his first-ever overseas stint.
Sims said he hopes to be back in a Petron uniform next season should management decide to give him another tour of duty.
“Yeah, definitely,” Sims said of a possible return stint with the Boosters.
Sims plans to leave for Baltimore, Maryland and get ready to join the NBA Summer League this year.
