Headband a necessity but hardly a distraction as LA Tenorio flashes old form

    Apr 9, 2017

WEARING a headband hardly affected LA Tenorio’s performance as he delivered as usual for Ginebra in its 113-98 victory over Star in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday night.

The Gin Kings star playmaker was forced to wear a black headband to cover the cut on his left eyebrow he sustained in a clash of heads with GlobalPort’s Rico Maierhofer in their game last Wednesday.

“Pantakip lang talaga yun dito (sa sugat), baka kasi tamaan eh,” Tenorio explained. “Hindi ko na pinatahi eh. I just made sure lang na hindi na ulit tamaan kasi pag tinamaan ulit, malamang mukhang every game na ako maghe-headband.”

“Actually pinahiram sa akin ni Chris Ellis yun. White talaga yung nabili ko, pero pinahiram sa ’kin ni Chris, so thankful ako kay Chris,” he added with a chuckle.

The headgear hardly covered up his game as Tenorio still flaunted his offensive prowess by tallying 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting, along with two assists, one rebound, and one steal against three turnovers in 34 minutes.

The veteran point guard scored eight points in the fourth period where he conspired with Justin Brownlee and Sol Mercado in leading the Gin Kings' breakaway.

“Siguro…talagang nafe-feel na namin yung rhythm, especially the latter part of the game, and especially Justin,” Tenorio said. “Once na on a roll si Justin, we really have to give him the ball. He doesn’t dominate the game by just scoring, but yung presence niya sa loob – he can pass, he can defend, so yun yung maganda kay Justin.”

“Nakita rin namin mismatches and we also took advantage of foul trouble ng Purefoods,” he added as the Gin Kings prevailed in what he feels was a statement win.

“Ito yung barometer namin na talagang kaya namin mag-compete with the teams that have bigger imports, so we took the challenge and good thing, we responded dun sa challenge na yun,” Tenorio said. “I think it’s a good momentum win game for us, especially going into a long break.”
