ALASKA put an end to Meralco’s seven-game winning streak on Tuesday night with a hard-earned 100-95 victory in Game Two of their PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals series at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Mike Harris scored 37 points and grabbed 19 rebounds while Simon Enciso added 23 points for the Aces, who led by as many as 20 points and weathered a late run by the Bolts to tie the best-of-five series at 1-all.
From a 47-40 halftime lead, Alaska opened the third quarter with a 19-6 run to post a 66-46 lead. The Aces held on to that advantage, thanks in part to a 20-of-21 stint from the free-throw line.
“Heck of a win,” said Alaska coach Alex Compton. “It’s now a best-of-three … I thought our defensive energy and attention to detail was much better. It’s never going to be perfect. But it was radically different.”
Chris Banchero had 13 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists in his second game for Alaska since suffering a twisted ankle during the quarterfinals.
Game Three will be played on Thursday at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Allen Durham had 24 points and 12 rebounds while Nico Salva tied his career-high of 20 points for the Bolts, who lost for the first time since a 1-6 start to the eliminations.
