YENG Guiao has promised to win a first-ever PBA championship for the NLEX franchise.

But he has asked players to make one promise in return.

Meeting with the NLEX team for the first time since his move from Rain or Shine last week, the multi-titled coach has asked the players to make the sacrifices in his bid to build a winning culture in a ballclub that has had little success since acquiring the Air21 franchise two seasons ago.

"I am not a miracle worker, but we will build this team into a championship ready squad," Guiao told the players during his first team meeting at the FCL Gym in Quezon City.

"For now, I enjoin everyone to make the sacrifices and win for the team. It will not happen overnight, but certainly, we will get there," he vowed.

Guiao, who has built a career out of turning young teams into title contenders and unheralded players into stars, also vowed to give the 24 players who showed up for the meeting a chance to show their value to the team.

"We will upgrade and streamline this lineup and give every player a chance," said Guiao, obviously referring to NLEX's overcrowded roster composed mainly of former players from sister teams Meralco and TNT Katropa.

"Di puwedeng ganito tayo kadami, we have to give everybody a chance," he added.

With a full week before NLEX begins its offseason training camp on October 18, the fiery coach also warned the team to be ready for anything, including his infamous outbursts.

"I will all give you a chance. Kung mapapahiya kayo, kasalanan n'yo na yun. But this I tell you, I will risk my neck to protect you, but I hope you will cooperate with our system," he said.

"It's not enough that you are in the PBA, you have to always carry with you the winning attitude. Huwag kayong makuntento na sumusweldo kayo, dapat you should realize that you are paid to play to win."
