RAIN or Shine coach Yeng Guiao called for referees to be on top of their game following the wild ending to Game Three of the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup quarterfinals on Sunday.

Though his team won the game, Guiao said the officiating of the match left a lot to be desired which he believes should no longer be the case because of the high stakes in the playoffs.

“Actually, daming namimiss na tawag na referee,” Guiao said after Game Three.

“Pagka-ganun, lahat ng involve sa laro must perform to their utmost best, players and referees.

“We demand that from the referees because that’s their duty. Trabaho nila ‘yun. Sana magawa nila ng maayos."

Guiao’s message was similar to that of his Magnolia counterpart Chito Victolero where he has called for sharpness from the referees after their 111-106 loss to Rain or Shine to trail 2-1 in their best-of-five quarterfinal series.

READ: Victolero demands sharpness from refs after controversial Game 3

Victolero’s sentiments stemmed from an incident late in overtime when Zavier Lucero’s lay-up, with the Hotshots down 106-104, was blocked by Jhonard Clarito. After Jerrick Ahanmisi fouled Gian Mamuyac with only 10.4 seconds to play, referees determined that Clarito’s block was a goaltending violation to tie the game.

But since a foul has already been called before the review, Mamuyac was still rewarded with the free throws, much to the chagrin of Victolero, who made his displeasure known by stepping to the playing court to complain to the referees and the technical committee.

Guiao said the procedure of reviewing a possible goaltending violation on a deadball situation was correct, although his issue was referees didn’t call a technical foul against Victolero when he complained on the court.

“Magulo talaga actually. Nakita nilang goaltend. Wala kaming reklamo nung sinabi nilang counted," Guiao said.

"Pero since meron nang naganap na action, may tatawagan na silang foul, that foul should still be in effect. Kasi ‘yun ang rules eh. ‘Yun naman ang rules. Pagka may tawag na ni-review, kung anong nangyari after that stays effective in the court of the game.”

Guiao is sure that if he is the one who did such act, a technical foul will be called against him.
