JUST a week after being assessed a hefty P100,000 fine, PBA commissioner Chito Salud slapped an additional P30,000 penalty on Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao for his “sideline clash” with Talk ’N Text import Richard Howell during the dying seconds of Monday’s semifinal series-opener.
“Rain or Shine Head Coach Yeng Guiao is fined the amount of thirty thousand pesos (Php 30,000.00) for causing contact against an opposing player,” Salud said in an official PBA statement released on Wednesday.
Guiao was complaining near the officials' table with 17 seconds to go in the team’s 85-91 Game One loss, when Howell walked between the fiery Rain or Shine coach and one of the game officials.
The fiery Rain or Shine coach, whose arms were outstretched at that time, tagged the 6-foot-8 import on the side, prompting Howell to confront him.
Cooler heads though immediately intervened as Howell tried to confront Guiao as the latter was heading back to the team’s bench.
The controversial Rain or Shine coach claimed Howell called him “bitch”, which the Talk ’N Text reinforcement vehemently denied.
Meantime, Meralco Fil-Am forward Cliff Hodge was also assessed another P20,000 fine for a flagrant foul penalty 2 called on him during the 5:21 mark of the fourth period in the Bolts’ 96-95 do-or-die game loss to Rain or Shine last weekend.
A video review showed the 6-foot-4 Hodge planted an elbow in the face of Rain or Shine gunner Jeff Chan during a loose ball scramble in mid-court.
Just late last week, Hodge was assessed a P20,000 for a regular foul that was upgraded to flagrant foul penalty after punching Rain or Shine rookie big man Raymond Almazan during a rebound sequence.
