YENG Guiao dismissed his criticism of the officiating in Wednesday’s PBA On Tour as nothing but a dry run for the coming Season 48.
Guiao on trademark complaints
“Nire-rehearse ko lang yung gagawin ko for the (coming season),” said the Rain or Shine mentor as he tries to lighten up the issue he had with game officials during the team’s game against TNT Tropang Giga at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
“Siyempre kailangan mo ring i-rehearse yun dito. So rehearsal lang yun.”
At least for three quarters, the 64-year-old coach actively criticized the calls and miscalls by the referees in an act that initially cost him a warning, but eventually led to a technical foul late in the third period.
Guiao was slapped with the technical for using profane language after confronting the referee at the table official with the score tied at 69-all with 2:36 left to play in the quarter.
But the outspoken coach managed to prove a point midway in the fourth when his challenge on an out of bounds play was declared successful.
The Elasto Painters proceeded to win a game that wasn’t decided until the team went on an 8-2 run in the final 1:33 behind the clutch baskets of Anton Assistio and Leonard Santillan.
Asked about his fiery hit at officiating, Guiao stressed everything was just a run-through for the next season.
“Rehearsal lang yun. Baka mawala kung hindi natin gagamitin. If you don’t use it, you lose it. Yun lang,” said the Rain or Shine mentor.
