FOR years, Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao has not been afraid to speak his mind, whether it’s about his players during the game or even on issues surrounding the league.
During the PBA 50th Season Commissioner’s Cup semifinals, Guiao had a feud with Barangay Ginebra team governor Alfrancis Chua, where he called the attention of the league to strictly enforce the rules due to Chua allegedly ‘intimidating the referees’ during the early part of the series.

When an issue that concerns the PBA arises, the name of Yeng Guiao, most of the time, is mentioned by the fans on social media.
And due to his outspoken ways, not a few fans feel that Guiao is fit to lead the PBA and become its commissioner.
“Salamat for their trust. Salamat for their confidence,” said Guiao, when informed about those sentiments from fans, during a recent lengthy interview with the Rain or Shine coach for the SPIN Covers series.

Being a commissioner is a familiar territory to Guiao. He once held the post in the amateur Philippine Basketball League from 1997 to 1999.
He doesn’t see that happening in the PBA.
“Malayong mangyari,” said Guiao.
“Hindi siguro mangyayari. Iba ang dynamics ng pulitika sa PBA. Naiintindihan ko siya. But, hindi siguro mangyayari. Mas lalo ko siyang naiintindihan dahil galing na ako sa pagiging commissioner. Iba ang pulitika. Iba ang structure. Iba ang model nung PBL commissioner ako. At iba ang structure at politics ng PBA board ngayon.”
“Hindi ko sa mas ayaw. Pero halos walang possibility ‘yun. Wala,” he added.
