RAIN or Shine has offered a three-year contract to Gian Mamuyac and head coach Yeng Guiao is hopeful that their skipper will choose to stay with the team.

Mamuyac is set to play in the Governors’ Cup as players with expired contracts have been auto-extended across the league until the end of the 50th Season.

Sign, let go, or trade? Guiao weighs in on Mamuyac contract talks

But Guiao said they want Mamuyac for the long term.

“We have a firm offer on the table,” Guiao said. “Kailangan sigurong pag-isipan pa. The ball is really on their court.”

“We are very happy with Mamu. I hope Mamu is happy with us. Sa ganung condition, siguro maayos din naman ‘yung kontrata.”

The 27-year-old Mamuyac has been playing with the Elasto Painters since he was drafted No. 5 overall in the Season 47 Draft in 2022.

Mamuyac was elected as the team captain prior to the start of the 50th Season after Gabe Norwood's retirement. He averaged 13.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.2 steals during the recent Commissioner’s Cup.

When asked to describe Rain or Shine’s offer, Guiao said: “I think it’s very fair. It’s also a three-year contract. That’s also something na they are fairly secured doon sa term ng contract.”

“Mahal namin si Mamu. Mahal namin ‘yung time spent together na tingin namin, nakinabang siya sa amin, nakinabang kami sa kanya. Hindi naman sa agrabyado doon sa proposal. Siguro pinag-iisipan na nila ngayon.”

Contract talks not a distraction

Meanwhile, Andrei Caracut’s contract recently expired and was also auto-extended until the end of the 50th Season.

Guiao said the team is in the process of finalizing the details of their offer to Caracut.

“Si Andrei, hindi pa na-straigthen out. We have the next four to five months to be able to do that,” Guiao said.

Caracut averaged 7.2 points as one of the top shooters of the Elasto Painters with a 21-of-69 clip from three-point range during the Commissioner’s Cup, his number of conversions the third highest among locals.

Despite the contract situation, Guiao said Mamuyac and Caracut have kept their focus in the leadup to the Governors’ Cup.

“They are very professional. The way they play is the way they play whether they have a long-term contract or not. Maayos ‘yung treatment nila sa trabaho nila.

“That’s also one thing na na-appreciate namin. They are very high-character players. We are not worried about them being distracted or being demoralized just because they still don’t have a long-term contract,” Guiao said.
