YENG Guiao isn’t putting too much into Rain or Shine's loss in the PBA 50th Season Commissioner’s Cup after a seven-game win streak.
He knew from the start, the law of averages will catch up with the Elasto Painters.
And it came on Tuesday night when the team went down against the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 87-83, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium despite leading by as many as 18 points.

Guiao said the winning streak as ‘good while it lasted.’
“Mangyayari talaga yun, mapuputol at some point,” said Guiao, who kept a positive outlook despite the loss.
“It also releases some pressure off us,” he added. “Ang gusto lang naman namin talaga is makarating kami ng nine wins and secure the twice to beat [spot]. Of course, we like to win as much and as many as we can. Pero darating yung araw na maalat talaga.”
The Elasto Painters indeed, shot a poor 30 percent from the field (29-of-94), with import Jaylen Johnson going 5-of-25 including 1-of-9 from three-point range and finished with only 12 points.
“We missed 18 layups, 'yung tutukan na layups,” Guiao pointed out. “That happens and we knew there was going to be a bad night one of these days, mabuti nakapag-pundar na kami ng panalo.”
Despite the loss, the Elasto Painters kept the top spot at 7-1 and still on track to securing a spot in the Top Four that enjoys a twice-to-beat advantage in the playoffs.
Guiao still feels good about the team’s chances.
“We don’t want to feel too bad about it because overall we’re really okay. We’re still No. 1. Yung objective naman is to secure yung twice-to-beat,” said the Rain or Shine coach.
“So I think looking at it on a positive perspective, it’s time to reset, nakapanalo ka na ng pitong beses, you lose one, maybe you can look forward to another win streak. So parang nakaka-relieve din ng pressure.”
