BARANGAY Ginebra lost in Game 4 of the PBA 50th Season Commissioner’s Cup semifinals on Wednesday no thanks to its worst shooting display from threes this year.
The Gin Kings shot just 5-of-23 from the field for 21.7-percent, their lowest this season in terms of three-point conversion and percentage, according to PBA statistics chief Fidel Mangonon.

This was after Ginebra shot 48.3-percent from threes (14-of-29) in its 103-98 win in Game 3 last Sunday - and in the first three games, the Gin Kings totaled 40-percent (38-of-95) from deep.

In Game 4, Justin Brownlee and Scottie Thompson hit a pair of threes each, with RJ Abarrientos accounting for the only other conversion.
Abarrientos, who was 11-of-26 (42-percent) in the first three games, attempted twice and made one, while Stephen Holt missed all of his five triple tries after going 40-percent (4-of-10) entering the match-up.
Interestingly, Elasto Painters coach Yeng Guiao said Ginebra’s three-point shooting, or lack thereof, wasn’t exactly because of his team's defense.
“Siguro, it’s the law of averages,” he said. “Game 1, ang taas ng percentage. Game 2, ang taas ng percentage, Game 3, ang taas ng percentage. Darating ‘yung panahon na magmimintis sila.”
Threes vs. threes
For its part, RoS made good on 10 out of 34 threes to win Game 4 and tie the series at 2-2.

Despite forcing a deadlock, Guiao warned that the Gin Kings could go on fire again in Game 5 to be played on Friday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum, especially since outside shooting is part of their system.
“Siguro, ngayon lang ‘yun. Siguro, pagdating ng Game 5, nandoon na naman ‘yung tres nila. That’s the risk you take taking threes. There will be good nights. There will be bad nights,” he said.
“But if it’s really part of your system, you accept those good nights and bad nights.”
