Guangzhou stays unbeaten in Super 8 as Blackwater fades in the end

    Jul 18, 2018

MACAU – BLACKWATER lost steam in the payoff period, allowing the Guangzhou Long Lions to run away with an 88-69 win on Wednesday in the Asia League Super 8 2018 at Macao East Asian Games Dome here.

The fourth quarter score says it all, with the Chinese side outscoring the Elite, 29-11 to stay unbeaten through two games in Group B.

    The Elite dropped to 1-1.

With the Long Lions in control with an early 11-point lead, the Elite staged an inspiring rally in the third frame that got them within one, 59-58, after a Renz Palma drive with 37.5 seconds left in the quarter.

But Blackwater botched numerous chances to get in front as Guangzhou held the Filipino squad scoreless for more than half of the frame. The Elite’s first basket came with 4:54 left in the game courtesy of a John Pinto split from the foul line.
