Greg Smith stands defiant even as losses keep piling up for Blackwater

    Apr 16, 2017

THE losses just keep piling for Blackwater as it suffered a fifth loss in six games at the hands of Meralco in the resumption of the PBA Commissioner's Cup on Easter Sunday.

But that’s not enough for import Greg Smith to lose confidence to the Elite as he remained defiant even after a heartbreaking 102-91 defeat at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

"I’m confident. Even if we lose 10 games in a row, I will stay confident. That’s who I am," he said.

"I’m gonna bring that mindset and play hard to let the guys know that we should start winning regardless of who we'll face," Smith added.

The 26-year-old reinforcement finished with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists in the loss which definitely Blackwater could have averted.

The Elite looked confident heading into the payoff period as they took an 80-72 lead off a James Sena three pointer.

But the Bolts tightened up on defense the rest of the way, limiting the Elite to just 11 points and depriving Blackwater of a chance to notch its first back to back wins for the conference.

"They played good defense. They started containing our plays. I think we started to just chill and not aggressive like we were in the first three quarters. That kinda hurt us in the fourth," the Fresno state alumnus continued.

Smith hopes the fight in him starts to rub off on his teammates as he looks to win more in their last five outings.

"We can win five straight, or four of the last five. Anything can still happen. There’s no reason to look back at these first six games thinking we’re done and we’re not good enough," he said.

"Now its time to get back to practice on Tuesday, learn to fight more, and start to prepare for the next games for us to win."
