Outplayed by rival Fajardo, Slaughter left to rue 'worst game' of PBA career

GREG Slaughter feels he played the worst game of his young pro career on Sunday when Barangay Ginebra surrendered to San Miguel Beer, 100-85, in the PBA Governors Cup.

In his first game back after being sidelined for three weeks by a sprained right ankle, the towering Gin Kings slotman contributed just six points – missing nine of his 12 shots – six rebounds, three assists, and one block.

“I think it was my worst game in the PBA so far,” Slaughter said. “I didn’t have my game rhythm today.”

It was not surprising as last season’s Rookie of the Year missed his team’s first five games after being involved in a freak accident in practice two days before the start of the season-ending conference.

Slaughter went back to training last Thursday, but only had one full practice since that time.

“I need more time to get my rhythm back and work on the right things,” he said.

Still, the former Ateneo star believes he could’ve provided more support to his team as he lost his individual battle with college rival June Mar Fajardo, who churned out 20 rebounds, 10 points, and one steal in 38 minutes.

“It’s really tough to match,” Slaughter admitted. “But I think both our teams played not just through the bigs. “Both teams showed we have many options to go to.

“But definitely I think I could’ve contributed more,” Slaughter continued as he hopes to be back in top form as soon as possible.

“I just got to do what I can and hopefully get my body back into shape where I can run up and down the court, boxing out and jumping constantly.”
