STA. ROSA, Laguna - Greg Slaughter and Sol Mercado could be rejoining Barangay Ginebra practice on Monday in the midst of the Kings’ winning run in the PBA Governors’ Cup.
Ginebra coach Tim Cone said there is a possibility that Slaughter and Mercado will be back to practice and could even play for the team on Saturday when the Kings face Rain or Shine in Lucena.
Cone also disclosed Joe Devance could also back in practice after the Lucena game.
“We are hoping Sol and Greg will join us tomorrow in practice, and maybe after our Lucena game, Joe might be available,” said Cone.
The development should be another good news for the Kings, who despite suffering injuries to key personnel occupy the top spot in the team standings with a 7-1 slate to secure a spot in the quarterfinal round.
Slaughter has not played since injuring his ankle in its match against NorthPort last September 5.
“Coming into the last games of the conference, we might start getting guys back and get back to where our team was last conference in terms of personnel and getting everybody back,” said Cone.
Cone said he had plans to insert Art dela Cruz in the game on Sunday. Dela Cruz missed two years of play due to an Achilles tear.
“I wanted to play Art today but he told one of my assistants he didn’t feel that he was ready. He is going to get another week of practice and see if we can get him going on Saturday in Lucena,” said Cone.
Cone is excited about the possibility of Slaughter, Mercado, and dela Cruz playing on Saturday against the Elastopainters.
“There is a possibility to have Greg back, Sol back, and Art playing on Saturday possibly. We will see what happens this week,” said Cone.
