ANTIPOLO – Big man Greg Slaughter jokingly castigated frontcourt partner Japeth Aguilar for an accidental elbow that left him with a cut just above the right cheekbone early in Ginebra’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup game against Mahindra on Wednesday night here.

Slaughter was the recipient of an Aguilar elbow midway through the first quarter of the Kings’ 104-86 rout of the Enforcers, forcing him to play with a dressing on the cut for the rest of his 32-minute stint on the floor.

He later posted a picture of him along with veteran Mark Caguioa – another victim of Aguilar’s infamous elbow – on both Twitter and Instagram with the caption, ‘Thanks@japethaguilar35.’

“Yeah," said a smiling Slaughter when asked about the incident. “He always jump so high with that elbow over there.”

But Slaughter said his towering partner immediately apologized to him following the play.

“I’ve been cut before, so no problem being stitched up,” said the center out of Ateneo, who proceeded to the hospital to have the cut stitched.

But Slaughter shrugged off the effect of the cut and proceeded to score 12 points and 10 rebounds in Ginebra’s third straight win in the mid-season conference.

“We’re happy with the win. Third win in a row, I just hope we can keep the momentum because we have a tough match-up coming up against Alaska,” he said of the Kings’ match-up against the streaking Aces next week.

Slaughter and Aguilar also teamed-up to defend Mahindra import Augustus Gilchrist, holding him down to just 18 points and 13 rebounds.

“We played pretty good defense against their import (Gilchrist). The thing with us (Japeth) is we had each other’s back, which made it easier for us to guard the import,” said Slaughter.

“I got his back and he got mine.”

But please, no more elbows the next time.
