BARANGAY Ginebra will be without 'Twin Towers' Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar when Frankie Lim makes his highly-anticipated coaching debut in a PBA Governors Cup game against Alaska on Friday night.
The 6-foot-11 Slaughter stepped on the foot of veteran slotman Dorian Pena during the tailend of the team’s practice on Wednesday and suffered a severe sprain in his right ankle.
The Ginebra slotman arrived at the Smart Araneta Coliseum hours before the game with his ankle in a protective boot and said he is set to undergo an examination on Monday to determine the extent of the injury.
On the other hand, the 6-foot-9 Aguilar is still sidelined with a right hamstring injury he sustained in the last Commissioner's Cup.
The injuries reduced Lim's frontline to three big men led by the 37-year-old Pena along with rookie Rodney Brondial and newly-acquired Dave Marcelo going to his coaching debut against the aces.
Aside from Marcelo, also making his debut in a Ginebra uniform is combo guard Sol Mercado, who swapped teams with Joseph Yeo last Monday. Yeo was shipped to Barako Bull.
Ginebra is also without Chris Ellis, who is out for the season after undergoing surgery on his right ankle.
