BARANGAY Ginebra coach Tim Cone confirmed on Thursday that Greg Slaughter will return to the Gin Kings for the 2021 PBA season.
Cone earlier made the revelation of Slaughter’s comeback in response to a tweet on social media by a fan on Wednesday night.
“Yes, Greg has signed although I’m not privy to the details. We are happy to have him back,” said Cone.
The 32-year-old Slaughter is set for a return to the team that selected the University of Visayas and Ateneo product first overall in the 2013 rookie draft.
After six years with the Gin Kings, Slaughter took a sabbatical with the squad after the 2019 season, vowing to improve both as a player and as a person.
While Ginebra won a championship without the 7-footer, Cone said Slaughter will remain a vital part to the Gin Kings’ defense of the Philippine Cup this year.
“He gives us such great versatility and a huge presence in the paint,” said Cone.
Cone said Slaughter will join the team once the Gin Kings begin their build-up for the 2021 season tentatively set this April.
“At this point, we're having voluntary practices and won't start official practice for at least a couple of more weeks,” said Cone.
Slaughter will also reunite with Japeth Aguilar to form Ginebra’s ‘Twin Towers.’
