Greg Slaughter raring to make up for lost time as he rejoins Ginebra for crucial game against SMB

    May 30, 2015

THREE days since rejoining Barangay Ginebra’s practice, youthful slotman Greg Slaughter says he never felt better.

“It’s good. I got three days of practice. Now I’m  just trying to get my wind back, get my rhythm back,” Slaughter told Spin.ph after the team’s Saturday practice at the Xavier school gym in San Juan.

“But I’m feeling stronger now because I was able to do some work with coach Kirk (Colier, trainer). We’ll see tomorrow.”

The 6-foot-11 Ginebra big man missed the team’s first five games in the PBA Governors Cup due to a right ankle sprain.

The big man out of Ateneo injured his ankle after accidentally stepping on the foot of teammate Dorian Pena two days before Ginebra’s first game this conference against Alaska.

Slaughter, along with frontcourt partner Japeth Aguilar (right hamstring injury) failed to play in the team’s first four games, causing the league’s crowd favorite to limp to a 1-3 start.

The 6-foot-9 Aguilar returned to action last week in Dubai, firing away 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to help steer Ginebra to a 93-81 win over Rain or Shine.

Slaughter said the Kings are hoping they can make one last push for a top four spot in the playoffs, but admitted their hands will be full on Sunday against a San Miguel Beer side that has won its last four outings.

“San Miguel is really a talented team. Very loaded and they have their import since last conference,” noted the former Rookie of the Year.

“They’re a good team. They had a slow start but the longer they go, they are a tough team.”

Import Arizona Reid (26.3 points and 9.5 rebounds), along with MVP June Mar Fajardo (17.3 points and 13.1 rebounds) will again be at the forefront of San Miguel's campaign as the Beermen shoot for their fifth straight win after going 0-2 to the start the conference.
