Unless he slips on a banana peel on the way to the court, Barangay Ginebra star big man Gregory Slaughter is sure to make his PBA Governors Cup debut in the game against San Miguel Beer on Sunday.
All smiles, Slaughter bared that he is ready and raring to reprise his role as one of Ginebra’s most consistent scorers after recovering from a badly sprained right ankle that forced him to sit out five games.
Obviously gaining a little weight, Slaughter will be returning in time for a showdown against former collegiate rival June Mar Fajardo.
“Oh yeah, I am ready to play,” Slaughter said smiling. “I just want to say what’s up Ginebra fans. I am back and I want to play for you, kabarangay ... Never say die."
Spin.ph even caught Slaughter’s practice with Ginebra last Saturday, which was his third day since he was given the green light to resume training by his doctor.
Slaughter bared that he is not yet in top form, but he is trying to catch up especially after more than a month of inactivity.
“I’ve been doing weights, but no running. I only had like one day of running up and down the court,” he said.
Slaughter bared that he has added weight in the time that he was limited to gym work.
“Double chin? Really? I don’t think so. I’ve been lifiting weights so I gained some good weight. I feel good,” he said.
