GREG Slaughter finally scored one over longtime rival June Mar Fajardo by edging out the three-time MVP for the Best Player of the Conference award of the PBA Governors Cup.

In only his first conference back from a season-long injury, the 6-11 center proved to be a pillar of strength for the Kings and played a key role in the team’s return to the finals of the season-ending conference.

His stellar plays allowed him to win his first-ever BPC award over Fajardo, whose rivalry with Slaughter dates back from their college days in Cebu, TnT Katropa’s Jayson Castro and Chris Newsome of Meralco to complete his comeback from two major injuries.

Slaughter tallied 975 points to beat out Newsome (707), Fajardo (617), and Castro (440).

The Ginebra big man won on media and PBA votes while Newsome was the top vote-getter among the players. He also bagged the award despite finishing just third in statistics (393), which Fajardo, a five-time winner of the BPC trophy, topped with 463 points.
