Greg Slaughter's offseason work quick to pay off as he earns Player of the Week citation

    Nov 9, 2015
Greg Slaughter has put in a lot of work in the offseason under Kirk Collier.

Greg Slaughter spent the offseason working on his skills and strengthening his upper body under conditioning coach Kirk Collier.

It didn't take long for the results to show in the PBA’s 41st season as the 6-11 Barangay Ginebra slotman has averaged monster numbers of 27.3 points and 20.3 rebounds in his first three games.

Although Barangay Ginebra was kept winless during the first one and a half weeks of the season, Slaughter's hardwork finally paid off and rewarded Tim Cone his first victory as coach of the league's most popular ballclub.

That happened in Dubai over the weekend when Slaughtetr scored 27 points and grabbed 19 rebounds, helping Ginebra pull off a 93-92 squeaker in the Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup’s first overseas game.

Slaughter’s scintillating performance earned him the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week for the period of November 3-8, besting the likes of GlobalPort’s Fil-Am guard Stanley Pringle, Blackwater’s Carlo Lastimosa and Star Hotshots’ Peter June Simon.

Despite his MVP-like performance early in the season, Slaughter stressed the importance of coming out with a solid defensive mindset each game.

“We just need to come out with a defensive mindset. Coach has been telling us to come out with our A-game because every team will always come out with their best,” said the former PBA Rookie of the Year.
