TNT Katropa blew a sizeable lead but recovered just in time to repulse GlobalPort, 122-120, and return to winning track in the 2016 PBA Governors' Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.
Ranidel de Ocampo, who scored 17 points, hit a long two that broke a 120-120 deadlock with 5.7 seconds left and TNT forced GlobalPort to commit a turnover in the ensuing play to preserve the solo lead with a 7-1 win-loss record.
Jayson Castro carried most of the scoring load for TNT Katropa, who even led 70-52 at halftime. Castro erupted with 37 points, including a three-pointer that gave the team a 120-109 lead entering the final three minutes.
The Batang Pier, though, refused to fold.
Behind import Mike Glover, Terrence Romeo, and Stanley Pringle, GlobalPort sparked an 11-to-nothing blitzkrieg that tied the count at 120-all with under a minute left.
Coming off a timeout, Castro drove to the basket only to kick it out to an open De Ocampo who delivered the dagger of a jumper..
But an errant pass by Pringle to Jay Washington spelled doom for the Batang Pier, who snapped a three-game winning streak and fell to a 3-5 card.
"Bumaliktad yung laro e (after first half). GlobalPort can really score especially when Pringle and Romeo got it going. We fell into a lull in the offense in the latter part," said TNT coach Jong Uichico.
Glover topscored for the Batang Pier with 38 points, while Romeo and Pringle added 33 and 25, respectively.
