RAIN or Shine hung on to outlast Alaska, 117-114, in the PBA Governors' Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Saturday.
Import Dior Lowhorn led Rain or Shine with 24 points, including 16 in the second period, and spoiled Aces counterpart LeDontae Henton's 41-point effort.
Paul Lee, who shot a key triple inside the final 80 seconds to give Rain or Shine the lead for good, scattered 18 markers and JR Quinahan added 16.
The Elasto Painters erased a 10-point deficit in the fourth period and improved to a 3-2 record with the win.
Alaska, meanwhile, suffered its third straight loss for a lowly 1-4 card.
"The team did a good job without me. The coaching staff, coach Caloy, were able to bring together the team despite my ejection," said coach Yeng Guiao, who got the boot late in the third quarter for incurring his second technical foul.
Rain or Shine was trailing 94-84 before a mini 10-4 surge sliced the deficit to four, 98-94, on Dior Lowhorn's basket with 5:37 to go.
JVee Casio completed a three-point play in the ensuing play to douse the run. But an 11-3 uprising highlighted by five straight points from Quinahan allowed the Elasto Painters to regain the lead, 105-104.
The lead even ballooned to 115-108, but a resilient Alaska side refused to fold and trimmed the gap,only to see their last-ditch rally fall short.
Calvin Abueva had 17 points for Alaska before fouling out in the waning seconds. JVee Casio and Dondon Hontiveros chipped in 13 apiece.
