RANIDEL de Ocampo showed flashes of his young self on Saturday night, providing the highlight reel for the TnT Katropa in Game Three of the PBA Governors' Cup semifinals against Meralco Bolts.
With 3:32 to go in the game, De Ocampo, 34, took off for an emphatic one-handed throwdown against Meralco import Allen Durham, sending TNT fans into a frenzy.
The dunk, De Ocampo admitted, was him venting his anger after being 'posterized' by Meralco rookie Chris Newsome a few possessions earlier with a picture-pretty left-handed slam.
"Medyo meron (gigil at gustong makabawi) din syempre," he said with a laugh. "Nadakdakan din ako ni Newsome. Taas tumalon e. Grabe yung dunk nya, ganda."
But even that highlight couldn't help TnT get over the hump as the Bolts went on to bag the victory, 119-113 and move a win away from the finals - a fact not lost on RDO.
"Aanhin mo naman 'yung dunk na maganda kung talo," he said.
The stinging loss put TnT - the top seed entering the PBA Governors Cup playoffs which has lost just three games all conference - on the brink of elimination.
But don't count us out just yet, warned De Ocampo.
"Tingin ko, wag muna isipin ng iba na wala na kami. Nandito pa kami, lalaban pa kami," said the longtime mainstay of Gilas Pilipinas.
"Naranasan na namin yung ganitong sitwasyon. Kailangan lang namin ma-limit three-points nila kasi nasa 60 percent three points nila so kailangan pa pagbutihan depensa namin."
