BARAKO Bull guard Ronjay Buenafe is taking his limited playing time in the PBA Governors’ Cup in stride.
The high-scoring guard was scoreless in just seven minutes of play in the Energy’s 93-96 loss to Rain or Shine on Saturday night, with some of his playing minutes going to rookies Carlo Lastimosa and Jeric Fortuna, apart from fellow veteran Willie Miller.
It was a stark contrast compared to his last two games, where he averaged 10 points in 23.5 minutes of play.
But like a good soldier, he is not complaining.
“Hindi naman. Kung ano ibigay sa akin, okay lang sa akin. Basta pag nasa loob ako, ginagawa ko lang ang trabaho ko.
“Maganda kasi nilalaro ng ka-puwestuhan ko at medyo flat rin yung start ko,” added Buenafe, although he didn’t attempt at least one shot, had no turnovers, and committed just a single foul.
Fortuna played 36 minutes and scored 14 points, while Lastimosa finished with two points in 17 minutes.
Buenafe just hopes his young teammates would continue to cherish the trust that coach Siot Tanquingcen has given them.
“Medyo malaking responsibility yung hawak nila ngayon. For me, pwede ko lang masabi sa kanila, i-value nila kung ano yung mga binibigay sa kanila at make the right decisions.”
It seems they are doing a decent job as Buenafe attributes the Energy’s four losses in five games to things outside their control.
“Breaks of the game lang naman yung mga talo namin. Continue lang namin yung pagiging masipag sa game at sa practice.”
