GLOBALPORT said on Wednesday rookie guard Stanley Pringle will remain with the team, contrary to rumors.
Bonnie Tan, the Batang Pier team manager, said the franchise is not in any way letting go of Pringle, who is rumored to be on his way to Barangay Ginebra in a trade for veteran point guard LA Tenorio.
“There’s no negotiations ongoing and we will stick with Pringle,” said Tan in an official team statement.
The denial came a day after reports came out of a Pringle for Tenorio trade as both teams effected coaching changes following their early ouster from the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Frankie Lim has just been named new Ginebra coach for Ato Agustin, while Pido Jarencio reclaimed his old coaching job at Globalport in lieu of Eric Gonzales.
However, GlobalPort insisted a Pringle trade will not be part of any changes.
“We’re not trading Pringle to any team,” added Tan of the combo guard who the team selected as the top pick overall in last year’s Rookie Draft.
Although Tenorio - along with Ginebra teammate Joseph Yeo – helped Globalport team owner Mikee Romero win the first of seven championships in the defunct Philippine Basketball League (PBL), the team reiterated it has no intention of taking the Gilas Pilipinas stalwart.
“We’re happy and satisfied with the performance of Pringle,” said Tan.
However, Spin.ph sources insisted that even if the trade doesn't happen this season, Pringle and Tenorio are bound to swap places before next season.
