GLOBALPORT survived a fourth-quarter comeback by Talk ‘N Text to pull off a pulsating 123-120 victory and snap a two-game slide in the PBA Governors Cup on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Coming back from a one-game absence due to a sprained ankle, rookie Stanley Pringle came up big late, scoring on a putback before making two foul shots in the last 11 seconds to give GlobalPort a three-point cushion.

Jayson Castro had two chances to send the game into overtime, but the Talk ‘N Text combo guard couldn't add to his 34 points or bail out the Texters with two late three-point attempts.

GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio dedicated the team’s fourth win in six starts to his eldest brother Giovani, who passed away on Monday due to a heart attack.

“This game is for my brother. Eldest namin si Giovani, na na-heart attack. This win is for his family,” said Jarencio.

Jarencio credited Pringle, Terrence Romeo, Keith Jensen, Palestinian import Omar Krayem and American reinforcement Jarrid Famous for keeping the team's head above water in the face of a Talk 'N Text fightback.

“We started strong when we started Omar as point guard and then Keith at the four-spot, kaya mas naging quicker kami,” said the outspoken GlobalPort coach, whose team blew a 13-point lead early in the fourth period.

“Nag-deliver yung mga players namin especially Jarrid Famous na napakita niya 'yung strength niya sa low post. Ganun din si Pringle, Terrence,” he added.

While GlobalPort climbed to a tie for fourth place with San Miguel Beer, Talk ‘N Text saw its two-game winning streak come to an end as it slid to the middle of the standings with its 3-2 record.

Alaska and Barako Bull currently share the top spot, while KIA is at solo second spot with its 3-1 record.
