GlobalPort silent on Terrence Romeo trade talk as Romero posts 'NO TRADE' stand

    Nov 14, 2017

LOS ANGELES - Globalport would rather keep mum on the reported request of star guard Terrence Romeo to be traded to another PBA team.

Batang Pier governor Eric Arejola declined to make a statement about the issue that came out just days before the PBA board left for the US for its annual planning session.

But Globalport owner Mikee Romero had a firm stand, posting on his Facebook page the words 'NO TRADE' in bold letters accompanied by a YouTube clip of Romeo and slam-dunking rookie Lervin Flores.

The prolific guard, who led the league anew in scoring last season, asked to be traded to another team during the term of Franz Pumaren in the last Commissioner's Cup, sources said.

Among the deals considered, sources added, was a trade to Meralco for sophomores Baser Amer and Chris Newsome. Both teams haven't made any statement since the report came out.

A Globalport insider, though, agreed that Meralco coach Norman Black won't let go of Newsome, the Bolts No. 4 pick overall in the 2015 draft, just to acquire the services of Romeo.

But that doesn't mean in any way was there any truth to the reported deal, which the GlobalPort source played down.

The Batang Pier have opened training camp last Monday under new coach Pido Jarencio but the 25-year-old Romeo has yet to show up at the Gatorade Hoops Center in Mandaluyong owing to injury.

He has also yet to join Gilas Pilipinas in full training for the Fiba World Cup qualifiers.
