GLOBALPORT star rookie Terrence Romeo will sit out the rest of the PBA Commissioner's Cup due to a back problem, compounding the woes of the winless Batang Pier.
No less than his agent at SMTM talent promotion, Nino Reyes, broke the news to Spin.ph on the eve of the PBA All Stars' Great versus Stalwarts game, which the former Far Eastern University star missed.
They Said It!
“(Terrence Romeo has) been playing through pain. We have no other choice but to rest him ." Romeo's agent Nino Reyes
Reyes said the flamboyant Romeo has been relegated to GlobalPort's reserve list.
"He's been playing through pain. We have no other choice but to rest him and prepare him for the next conference," said Reyes, grandson of the famous Nicanor Reyes Sr., patriarch of FEU.
"He is now under therapy at the NRMF hospital in Fairview," added the talent manager.
In his first conference as a pro, Romeo became the toast of PBA fans as he averaged 22.7 points a game while tallying a career-high 34 points playing for then interim coach Richie Ticzon.
His numbers, however, dipped under new GlobalPort mentor Pido Jarencio in the midseason tournament, tallying a forgettable 8.71 points as the Batang Pier slumped to seven successive losses that knocked them out of contention for a playoff berth.
Asked if Romeo's sudden demotion to reserve status had something to do with the system of former University of Santo Tomas coach Jarencio, Reyes refused to respond.
"No comment on that matter. Basta all we want is to tell the fans that Terrence is injured and he needs to rest. He's been playing through it (pain)," said Reyes, who added the move has the approval of team owner Mikee Romero and team manager BJ Manalo.
"His subpar performance can be attributed to him playing thru pain," Reyes added.
