GLOBALPORT pounced on a weary and demoralized NLEX, cruising to a 108-80 victory on Friday night to snap its skid in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Jarrid Famous, Terrence Romeo, and Omar Krayem conspired as the Batang Pier zoomed to an early lead and never looked back on the way to the one-sided win -- their biggest winning margin in franchise history.
The result also put a halt to a two-game losing streak and enabled the Batang Pier to climb above .500 with a 5-4 win-loss card, while dealing the Road Warriors, coming off a grueling 106-102 loss to Rain or Shine just two nights ago, their third defeat in a row and seventh in nine games.
“We caught them off guard kasi galing sila sa hard game,” Batang Pier coach Pido Jarencio said. “Kami well rested, so medyo naging aggressive kami.”
Famous hugged the spotlight early as the American slotman tallied nine of his game-high 30 points in the first quarter, where the Batang Pier took a 13-point lead that set the tone for the rout.
Romeo then took over, pumping in 22 points after going scoreless in the first period.
Not to be outdone was Krayem, who fired 19 points, the last three on a triple that gave the Batang Pier the first of several 30-point leads at 101-71 with a little over four minutes left.
Globalport also shone defensively as the Road Warriors missed all their 15 three-point attempts, including eight from Mike Madanly, who converted four three-pointers to lead the Road Warriors’ amazing fightback against the Elasto Painters that fell short.
