GLOBALPORT gets a timely help with the reactivation of big man Jay Washington in time for the team’s game against Phoenix in the PBA Governors Cup on Sunday.

The 4:30 p.m. encounter at the Smart Araneta Coliseum marks the first time the 6-foot-7 Fil-Am will be suiting up for the Batang Pier after missing their first three games due to a calf injury.

Washington said he suffered the injury while in practice just before the season-ending conference begins following a collision with teammate Ronald Pascual.

“I was just standing in the lane and he came running (through the lane) and just boom!, right in the calf and I went down,” recalled a smiling Washington of the incident. “I couldn’t walk like three days. That’s how pretty bad it is.”

Good thing, the MRI test revealed it was just a ‘normal contusion,’ although it made him missed all the three losses of the Batang Pier in the tournament.

“It’s just really frustrating because after all the pre-season and everything, it’s just a freak accident in the practice,” he said.

The return of Washington only leaves center Rico Maierhofer in Globalport’s injury list, which at one-time in the conference had the likes of Terrence Romeo and Joseph Yeo.
