TERRENCE Romeo is on the trading block.
Sources on Tuesday confirmed to SPIN.ph that GlobalPort is fielding offers for its flamboyant star guard after he sought to be traded to another PBA team midway through last season.
The development was first reported by Musong Castillo of the Inquirer.
One such negotiation had the Gilas Pilipinas mainstay going to Meralco for the backcourt pair of Baser Amer and Chris Newsome, but team insiders said the deal has yet to push through.
"Wala pa 'yan," said a GlobalPort insider.
GlobalPort sources, however, confirmed that Romeo indeed sought to be shipped to another team. The former Far Eastern University star made the request during the Commissioner's Cup, he added.
Romeo, the No. 5 pick in the 2013 PBA draft, has become one of the most popular players in the pro league but has tasted little success in his four seasons with the Batang Pier.
The star guard has not come close to a championship at GlobalPort, where he reached the conference playoffs six times and the semifinal stage just one in his PBA career.
His most memorable moments, in fact, came with the national team, where he appeared in the last two stagings of the Fiba Asia Cup in China (2015) and Lebanon (2017).
The Inquirer reported that Meralco is reluctant to push through with the deal since it doesn't want to let go of Newsome, an athletic two-way player who has blossomed in two seasons under Norman Black.
Before that, GlobaPort tried to ship Romeo to TNT for Mo Tautuaa. The deal was likewise rejected by the Katropa, the Inquirer added.
