GLOBALPORT may have suffered yet another loss in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Friday night.
But the good thing is coach Pido Jarencio said he’s finally seeing a clear direction for the young franchise.
“Yung picture na nakikita ko sa team nandiyan na. May direction na,” said Jarencio after the 113-107 loss the Batang Pier absorbed at the hands of Barangay Ginebra.
It was the fifth straight loss for Globalport, which remained the only winless team in the 10-field tournament.
Still, Jarencio is not giving out on the Batang Pier.
“Siyempre ngayon natatalo, may frustration din ang mga players, pero sabi nga ni (import) Evan Brock huwag kami ma-down," he said.
For the second straight game, the Batang Pier fell short in their rally after coming back from huge deficits against Meralco and Ginebra.
The Kings kept the Batang Pier at bay by sinking 15 of their last 16 free throws in the final seven minutes of the fourth period, including the last two by LA Tenorio that clinched it for the league’s crowd darling.
"Throughout the game, may mga breaks kasi na di napunta sa amin. Naka-score sila (Kings), which is pagkabalik din naman (sa next play), hindi kami naka-score,” he said.
Nonetheless, Jarencio urges his team to just hang on.
“Kailangan lang, sipag, huwag dapat mawawala yun. Dapat tuloy tuloy pa rin," added Jarencio, whose best years as a pro player came while playing for Ginebra, where he won a championship during the 1997 Commissioner's Cup.
“Again, team effort lang dapat. Kailangan maging consistent ang lahat. Tulungan pa rin at huwag lang mag-give up."
