BEHIND new import Calvin Warner, Globalport shoots for its fourth win in the PBA Commissioner Cup as it tries to enhance its playoff bid when it clashes with expansion team Blackwater in Sunday’s curtain raiser at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
With Warner providing energy and leadership to the young franchise, the Batang Pier are currently in the middle of the pack with an even 3-3 record entering the 3 p.m. game against the Elite.
The Batang Pier is fresh from a 99-81 lynching of Barako Bull behind the 23 points and 20 rebounds of Warner and the team-high 24 markers of gunner Terrence Romeo.
“I just try to bring my leadership in the team, not to be arrogant. Yes, I won 13 championships (in different leagues overseas), but I don’t care about my stats because I just want to win and show the PBA what I can do,” said Warner.
The Elite are at the bottom of the standings tied with San Miguel Beer and NLEX at 1-4. They are coming off an embarrassing 106-79 defeat at the hands of the Road Warriors.
Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player Marcus Douthit will play for Blackwater for the rest of the tournament after team owner Dioceldo Sy decided to send home original import choice Chris Charles.
The 7-foot-2 two-time Asean Basketball League MVP failed to play a single game in the league after hurting his hamstring before the start of the conference.
