GLOBALPORT rode on Terrence Romeo’s second quarter rampage to overcome a sluggish start and whip Barako Bull, 99-81, in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 5-foot-10 Romeo caught fire in the second period when he scored 15 of his team-high 24 points that helped the Batang Pier erased an early 10-point deficit.

Before his scoring explosion, Romeo was held down to just two points in the opening quarter.

Import Calvin Warner, rookie Fil-Am Stanley Pringle, and Mark Isip then sustained the momentum in the second half for the Batang Pier, who bounced back from a sorry 86-84 loss to the Meralco Bolts on Sunday.

Globalport improved to an even 3-3 card and climb up to solo sixth spot in the standings.

“Thankful ako sa mga players kasi nag-respond sila dahil malaking lesson yung Meralco game sa amin,” said winning coach Eric Gonzales.

Barako Bull dropped its second straight game after opening the mid-season conference with three straight wins.

The Energy now share third spot with idle Rain or Shine at 3-2.

Playing in just his second game after replacing CJ Leslie, the wide-bodied Warner came one rebound short of his first 20-20 output after finishing the match with 23 points and 19 rebounds.

Isip came off the bench to add 14 points and seven rebounds.

Nigerian import Solomon Alabi led the slumping Barako Bull squad with 37 points and 27 rebounds.
