GLENN Khobuntin made another huge play in a victory for Columbian on Saturday in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Khobuntin pulled off a chasedown block against RJ Jazul in the dying seconds of the match, and it led to a running shot by Reden Celda for the marginal basket as the Dyip beat Phoenix Pulse, 100-98.
“Kailangan manalo. Iniisip ko foul o block,” said Khobuntin.
It was his second time Khobuntin made a crucial play for Columbian in the victory. The former National University standout hit a crucial three late in their 134-132 overtime win over San Miguel.
This time, Khobuntin made a big play on the defensive end, after Columbian committed a turnover.
“’Yung play kay CJ (Perez),” Khobuntin recalled. “Iso siya sa top. Nag-cause ng turnover. Inabangan ko lang ‘yung mangyayari. Wala nang bumaba, kailangan bumaba. Hinabol ko na lang. Buti na-block,” said Khobuntin.
But the 27-year-old Khobuntin didn’t take all the credit for the block, as Rashawn McCarthy, he said, was also instrumental in forcing a block.
“Ang maganda kasi nun, si Rashawn nasa harap din. Siguro nag-brake din siya kasi baka habulin siya. Buti nandoon din si Rashawn. Buti nahabol,” said Khobuntin.
Columbian kept itself in contention in the playoffs after improving its card to 3-7. However, the Dyip will be facing reigning champion Barangay Ginebra in their final match of the elimination round.
Khobuntin said the week of rest before facing the Gin Kings will be a big boost for their chances.
“Kailangan lang manalo para may bonus para sa family,” said Khobuntin in jest. “Whatever it takes.”
“Pero big game pa ‘yung 14 against Ginebra, ‘yung last game namin. Depende kay coach ‘yung game plan. Siguro magrest muna kami,” said Khobuntin.
