FACING San Miguel really brings out the best in you.
And that was the case for Glenn Khobuntin and Columbian on Sunday when the Dyip pulled off a stunning 134-132 overtime win over the Beermen on Sunday in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup.
"Tinake lang namin yung challenge every game, lalong lalo na San Miguel ang kalaban namin, di ba? So kung ano lang meron kami, binibigay lang namin every game," said the fourth-year forward.
Khobuntin delivered the goods late for Columbian, scoring six points in the extra period including the huge trey with 42.4 seconds remaining that put his side up, 132-128.
"Just take the open shot lang," he said, shrugging off his heroics. "Tinatrabaho ko naman yun every day eh, so confident lang sa tira. Pag open, tira kaysa naman di mo ititira, baka mag-turnover pa."
He wound up with eight points and four rebounds, as well as playing superb defense in his near-34 minutes on the floor.
Khobuntin's performance continued the Dyip's mastery of the powerhouse Beermen this season, with his side also getting the upper hand back in the Philippine Cup.
But more than anything, it's a testament, in the eyes of the former NU Bulldog, that Columbian is no longer the whipping boys they were in the past seasons, and that even though the Dyip are struggling with their 2-6 card, they are still capable of stunning the perennial contenders.
"Nakaka-boost ng morale kasi San Miguel ang tinalo namin. Struggling kami, tapos isang malaking team pa yung nasungkit namin, so hopefully next games, ganoon ulit yung lalaruin namin," he said.
