Kia caretaker coach Glen Capacio rues early foul trouble that dampened their chances against San Miguel

    Nov 20, 2014

KIA Motors caretaker coach Glen Capacio felt the Sorento did well to follow the game plan against powerhouse San Miguel Beer, until they found themselves in penalty situation early in the fourth quarter.

“Sa tingin ko, yung na-penalty lang kami kaagad nung fourth quarter, eh di ko lang alam, mahirap na magsalita,” said Capacio, before leaving the Smart Araneta Coliseum in haste after a quick post-game talk with his players in the dugout.

Although the difference wasn’t that big, with Kia slapped 23 fouls to San Miguel’s 20, Capacio felt they could have done better in the fourth if not for the foul situation.

“Okay kami, happy kami sa pinakita (of the Kia players), pero alam naman ng tao ano ang nangyari sa game. Sila (basketball fans) na lang mag-comment sa fourth quarter,” said the 50-year-old Capacio.

“Eh na-penalty agad kami, mga 10 and-a-half minutes to go, penalty na kami, may problema yata, ayaw ko na lang magsalita.”

The loss was Kia’s seventh straight since opening the season with an 80-66 victory over fellow expansion team Blackwater at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

The team also failed to bring a nice send-off win for playing coach Manny Pacquiao, who is now in Macau for his World Boxing Organization welterweight title defense against Chris Algieri.

The Sorento leave for Macau on Saturday to watch Pacquiao’s title fight the following day.

They will leave Macau immediately on Sunday afternoon and prepare for their last three games in the single-round eliminations, starting with reigning champion Purefoods Star next Wednesday.
