GLEN Capacio said he is still with GlobalPort amid reports boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao is interested in getting him to be part of the Kia Motors coaching staff in the PBA.
Capacio, the chief assistant of Batang Pier coach Pido Jarencio, said he intends to be part of the Batang Pier coaching staff for now as he is still under contract with the franchise owned by Mikee Romero.
“Wala pa,” said Capacio when asked about any development related to him becoming a member of the Kia coaching shortly after Lyceum’s game against Letran in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup preseason tournament.
Aside from GlobalPort, Capacio is also an assistant coach of Lyceum in the NCAA.
“Under contract ako sa Globalport,” said Capacio before politely excusing himself to join the Pirates.
The former Purefoods mainstay is being groomed by the eight-time world champion to be one of the assistant coaches of Kia as he intends to surround himself with people who will help him run the team when he officially assumes the role as head coach of one of the league’s expansion teams.
Pacquiao's business manager Eric Pineda has confirmed that the global boxing icon wants Capacio, a good friend, in his coaching staff, saying the former FEU star is Pacquiao's "first choice."
“We just want to sit down with Glen and talk to him about his recommendations and then we will give him his options para hindi siya mahirapan sa pamamalakad,” said Pineda.
Ariel Vanguardia, head coach of the Westports Malaysia Dragons in the Asean Basketball League (ABL), is also being mentioned as probable part of the Kia coaching staff.
