IF there is one person who's very happy with Alex Cabagnot’s improved play, it should be his girlfriend Ginger Conejero.
“I’m very happy for Alex. I think it’s well-deserved. I know how he works very hard to reach his goals, short term or long term. I’m filled with joy for Alex,” said Conejero, a former Miss Earth runner-up and now a popular broadcaster and host of giant television network ABS-CBN.
Conejero shared how motivated Cabagnot is to improve his play and help his team.
“His motivation for basketball doesn’t waver and doesn’t change, 'yan ang nakita ko sa kanya since noong una ko siyang nakilala,” she said. “His inspiration is to put his best out there.”
Conejero said Cabagnot is his own worst critic.
“He is critical of himself because he’d always think he could have done better. One thing about him is he is very resilient,” said Conejero.
“If something didn’t work out, he’ll use it as a motivation and make sure he trains harder next time para makabawi siya,” she added.
Cabagnot has attracted his share of criticism - more so during Petron's tailspin early in the season - from bashers who feel he is a shoot-first point guard ill suited for a team loaded with a lot of offensive weapons.
But the 31-year-old Fil-American has won some fans over with his improved playmaking skills and judgment just as the Boosters were turning their season around.
Cabagnot has normed 11.33 points, 4.44 rebounds, 4.33 assists and 1.22 steals per game in helping Petron lead the last elimination round with an 8-1 win-loss record.
But how does Cabagnot treat his haters especially on Twitter?
Conejero shared her thoughts.
“We’ll you can’t please everybody all the time. But he doesn’t tell me about it,” she said. “But if people say something against him, he just makes it a point to use it to motivate himself.”
She continued: “He’s not affected. He loves challenges and he works very hard. But this I assure you, with or without haters hindi nababago ang work ethic niya. He’s a workhorse.”
